The Mayor of Naples Gaetano Manfredi gave some good news regarding the now very long works of the Naples metro line 6, announcing that the section will be completed within two years and will finally arrive at Piazza Municipio.

According to this protocol signed with Fs Sistemi Urbani (which is part of the Ferrovie dello Stato group), the head station of metro line 6 in via Campegna will soon be open, in Fuorigrotta.

The situation in this circumstance has been at a standstill for 10 years, but finally a window seems to be opening up. Manfredi announced that the protocol provides:

  • the transfer to the Municipality of the area of via Campagna where they will create a deposit , subway station;
  • the program of urban regeneration of the areas facing via Diocleziano and via Giulio Cesare, which are always located near via Campegna and are owned by FS.

This means that Line 6 will be able to use a warehouse-workshop to maintain trains and which will also be used for the stops. In addition, there will be a real one subway station to insert new trains into the circuit, trains that have already been scheduled.

San Pasquale station by summer

The mayor also spoke of the route that will arrive at the San Pasquale station, in Chiaia, which should open in a few months. The hope is that it will open before summer. It will be necessary to wait for the completion of the tests.

It will open with i regenerated trains because at the moment the new trains cannot be used, but with the opening of the Diocletian station it will be possible to put them into service.

It would be a new convenient fast connection to get to the Chiaia, Riviera and Lungomare areas.

The whole route opened in two years

As mentioned, the entire section up to Piazza Municipio will be open by 2023, as declared by the mayor following the signing of the memorandum of understanding.

When the new trains will be up and running, which will be 10, the service on all stops of the section will be guaranteed every five minutes.

New settlements for students

At the end of his communication to journalists after the signing, the mayor also said that with this protocol a path will be launched for rearrange the urban planning of the Campi Flegrei area, via Diocleziano and via Campegna with new important settlements.
