Metro Line 1, WiFi and 4G and 5G telephone network activated

From today, traveling on Line 1 of the Naples Metro will be an experience finally more modern and connected. Thanks to an important agreement between Cellnex Italia, Municipality of Naples and ANM Napoli, citizens and tourists will be able to enjoy a 4G and 5G Ready mobile connection in the first 7 stations of the line, here are the ones:

• Dante,
• Museum,
• Materdei,
• Salvator Rosa,
• Four Days

A highly anticipated innovation, announced numerous times and never achieved in recent years, which represents a significant step towards one increasingly smart and interconnected cities, finally guaranteeing high-quality cellular signal coverage to improve the usability of public transport.

The technological network implemented

The implementation of the mobile connection on Line 1 of the Naples metro required a considerable technological commitment.

Some 570 latest generation micro-antennas have been installed in the first 7 stations, while the remaining will be installed by 2025 in all 16 stations of the line.
To support data traffic, they were laid over 13 km of optical fiber inside the tunnels, covering a total of 12 km of route.

The next activation phases

The 5G Ready mobile connection in Line 1 stations will be activated progressively over a couple of weeks, therefore by the end of August. During this period, the service will become operational for all mobile network operators active in Italy.
