Mimmo Jodice on show in Naples with “Napoli Metafisica” at Castel Nuovo

From April 13th to September 1st 2025, the historical spaces of Castel Nuovo host “Naples Metaphysics”, the new personal exhibition of Mimmo Jodice, among the greatest masters of contemporary photography. The exhibition, curated by Vincent Trione, marks the debut of the “Napoli Contemporanea 2025” program, promoted by the Municipality of Naples to enhance the current artistic scene in the city’s symbolic places.

A photographic journey between archetypes and visions

The exhibition is divided into eight thematic sections, inspired by recurring motifs of the metaphysical imagery: Distances, Arches, Columns, Statues, Monuments, Shadows, Apparitions and Voids. The more than fifty photographs of Napoli created by Jodice visually dialogue with the paintings of Giorgio de Chirico, creating a bridge between different languages ​​united by the same sense of mystery and suspension.

The choice to set up the exhibition in the Palatine Chapel, in Chapel of the Souls of Purgatory and in 'Armeria of the castle strengthens the suggestive nature of the route, transforming the experience into an investigation into the memory, time and absence.

The artist and his city: an unbreakable bond

Mimmo Jodice, born in Naples in 1934, has built a unique language capable of uniting conceptual photography with the poetic dimension of reality. Always faithful to his city, he has chosen Naples as a privileged subject for reflect on space, light and solitude, creating a narrative that goes beyond visual documentation.

In his work, places are transformed into suspended visions, fragments of an indefinite time. Jodice photographs them as if they were metaphysical still lifes, revealing the most intimate essence of urban landscapes.

The exhibition will be open to visitors at the following times:

• 13th April: extraordinary opening with free entry 10:30am to 18:00pm (last admission 17:30pm)
• From Monday to Saturday, from 10: 00 to 18: 00 (last entry 17pm)

The exhibition is promoted by City of Naples, organized by Elect in collaboration with Mimmo Jodice Studio , Giorgio and Isa de Chirico Foundation, and financed by the Campania region.
