Misery and Nobility at the San Ferdinando Theater of Naples
During the 2016 Christmas holidays, Scarpetta's opera is staged at the San Ferdinando Theater in Naples.
Taking a look at the offer of Neapolitan theaters, during the Christmas period you are spoiled for choice. One of the highest quality shows is offered by San Ferdinando Theater, that from 21 December 2016 to 8 January 2017 host Misery and Nobility.
La famous comedy, written in Neapolitan by Eduardo Scarpetta in 1887, it is presented here under the direction of Arturo Cirillo. Among the actors are Tonino Taiuti, Milvia Marigliano, Giovanni Ludeno, Sabrina Scuccimarra. There is no Neapolitan who does not know the story of protagonist Felice Sciosciammocca, penniless scribe who together with his friend Pasquale and family members he pretends to be a relative emblazoned of the noble scion Eugenio, to help the boy get permission to marry Gemma, daughter of a former cook.
There are many versions and remakes of this comedy, including the lucky cinematographic transposition that sees Toto in the lead role. Equally numerous are the themes: the paternal relationship, the distance between social classes, the black hunger that plagued Naples at the end of the XNUMXth century.
