Exhibition “The Years. Chapter 1” at the Madre Museum in Naples: art from the post-war period to today

From post-war period to today, Naples has experienced a unique artistic evolution, which the Mother Museum tells through the exhibition “The Years. Chapter 1“. Curated by Eva Fabbris, the exhibition, which can be visited until 19 May 2025, intertwines works from the museum's permanent collection with loans from public and private collections locals.
The project offers a choral narration of art in Naples, celebrating its collective memory through emblematic works that have marked the artistic panorama of the city. The title of the exhibition is inspired by the novel by annie ernaux, emphasizing the relationship between memory and oblivion.
Which works and artists are on display?
The exhibition features a selection of works by historical and contemporary artists, Including:
- Carlo Alfano, with “Delle distanza dalla Rappresentazione” (1968-69), a work originally exhibited at the Modern Art Agency gallery in Lucio Amelio and subsequently acquired by the Madre Museum in 2013;
- Luciano Fabro, with “North, South, East, West play in Shanghai”;
- Nan Goldin, with an iconic photographic collection that explores themes related to identity and human relationships.
Other artists featured include Piero Manzoni, Mimmo Jodice, Ugo Mulas, Allan Kaprow, Luisa Lambri, Ugo Rondinone and Vettor Pisani. The exhibition evolves over time, with new works and rooms that will be integrated into the itinerary, anticipating next chapters which will further explore the theme of the exhibition.
