Murals by Jorit in Ischia, on a school the face of an African woman

Mural of Jorit in Ischia

The famous street artist Jorit is making a new mural, this time to Ischia, on the facade of the Buchner high school, portraying the face of one African woman which will probably represent a migrant.

As always Jorit wants to throw an iimportant social message with his works and not only show a great beautiful graffiti made to art. From the murals of him, which represent the faces of the "Human Tribe", as you can always easily see from the characteristic tribal stripes he draws on each of his subjects, they often shine through messages of solidarity and social denunciation.

This work is part of the project "RBTE - Right between the eyes“, Funded by the Campania Region School Department within the“ Viva School Program ”and was started in recent days to end within two weeks. Therefore, by early-mid-June 2022 it should be complete.

The project with 5 murals

In total they will be made 5 murals on the facades of as many schools in Campania, works that Jorit will conclude with the help of two assistants. That of Ischia is most likely a mural that also refers to history of Restituta, the patron saint of the island.

The Ischia high school, where he is currently working, is dedicated to the archaeologist Buchner who found the cup of Nestor.

They were also involved 70 students high school in order to allow children, through special workshops, to get to know the world of street art, with a focus on Jorit's work. This artist of ours, now famous all over the world, as mentioned constantly reminds us that we all belong to the same Human Tribe, despite the small and large differences between each of us.

The racist insults to the mural

Unfortunately there was also one unpleasant racist episode during Jorit's work because racist comments appeared on social media related to the fact that he was drawing a black woman.

Su Facebook a comment was posted by a user that read "We begin to form the vandalization committee for this shameful mural”By associating a hashtag and other unrepeatable comments.

Fortunately, it was an isolated episode and seems to have been started by a young student of the institution in question. There Police opened an investigation and the boy could be sued.

Of course, both Jorit and the school, through the words of the head teacher, got one clear opposite position, stigmatizing what happened, as did almost the entire population of the island.

Unfortunately, Jorit's reply post was obscured by Facebook because it contained inappropriate words, which were those of the racist boy's comment, so the artist had to republish it by modifying it and obscuring some words in order to express his reaction without the risk of a new removal.
