The Museum of Madness - from Goya to Maradona: in Naples an exhibition curated by Vittorio Sgarbi

Museum of Folly

An exhibition on the link between art and madness curated by Vittorio Sgarbi: the “Museum of Madness - from Goya to Maradona” arrives in the Pietrasanta Church!

Il Museum of Folly is the new exhibition that the art critic Vittorio Sgarbi will curate in Naples in the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore at Pietrasanta , in the same location where last year the beautiful "The hidden treasures". From the 3 December 2017 to the 3 July 2018, the exhibition will be a real journey in the mind crossed by disturbances and disturbances of various artists, from Goya to Maradonaas stated by Sgarbi himself. It houses some masterpieces of the great artists of international art history, such as Francisco Goya, Antonio Mancini, Fausto Pirandello, Adolfo Wildt and Francis Bacon, which belong to prestigious private collections and important Italian and international museums.

The leitmotif of all the works of the exhibition, which is itinerant because already presented in other cities, is precisely the link between art and madness, the wavering of the minds of men like Van Gogh and Ligabue, artists who, however, have been able to transform their problems into true masterpieces. It is a sort of asylum recreated by Cesare Inzerillo.

for Night of Art of December 16, admission will be reduced to 7 euros from 18.00 to 24.00.

Maradona as Caravaggio

In this exhibition, Maradona is considered the Caravaggio of the twentieth century because for both life becomes art. AND "in both, existence passes through an abyss that does not sanctify. It is not a stretch. The faces of Caravaggio are the children of life, of the streets, of the peripheries of humanity. His works show pain and divine, light and dark, sin and redemption at the same time".
Dedicated to Maradona there is a painting that reproduces a photo with the left foot on which Inzerillo painted making it a kind of painting. In another section, however, they are exposed radiographs of his feet showing the various injuries of his career.

Corno Reale and Apribocca

These are the two great novelties of the Naples exhibition. There are 90 portraits of patients chosen in the many medical records in the former Italian mental hospitals and go to compose one grid of over 20 meters in which one bright neon he follows the outline of each portrait, giving light and noise to the thoughts of each face.

All saints

An installation that shows us, through the sculptures by Cesare Inzerillothe deepest fears of patients in an asylum, disorders that necessarily affect life. They are all mummies, but at the same time also saints because they are forced into a difficult battle against suffering and death.

Freedom, art, madness, pain. From Mario Tobino to Franco Basaglia

Two Rai Teche documentaries that explain the schools of thought of two mental institutions with the voice of Paolo Crepet: “Direct line - Discussion on law 180” and “X-Day - The great of science“ Franco Basaglia ”.
