In Naples opens the MAMT, Mediterranean Museum of Arts, Music and Traditions, dedicated to the cultures and traditions of 43 Mediterranean countries

Naples now has the museum that was missing! This was the happily achieved goal set by the Fondazione Mediterraneo with the inauguration of the MAMT, Mediterranean Museum of Art, Music and Traditions.

Naples is enriched, so, a new museum complex, born a few days ago in the historic center of the city and that, as the name says, will be dedicated to traditions artistic and musical of 43 Euro-Mediterranean countries.

The MAMT is located in a wing of the historic building of the former Grand Hotel de Londres, adjacent to the station designed by the Portuguese architect Alvaro Siza and of which it preserves some drawings and sketches. Inside, there will be various spaces dedicated to popular cultures and history, architecture and photography, as well as an area dedicated to gastronomy with a section dedicated to pizza and bread.

To encourage the dialogue between religions, the MAMT has a room dedicated to common prayer that will welcome the believers of the three main religions of the Mediterranean: Islam, Christianity and Judaism.

Among the objects displayed inside it, it is possible to find ancient Egyptian artifacts, fine Turkish artifacts, objects from the Maghreb and from Spain, Portugal and Greece, pieces of the history of all the countries facing the Mediterranean. In addition, one will also be hosted crib of the historic Ferrigno workshop.

The museum is therefore a way to encourage the culture of differences and integration, to make the public aware of different traditions and cults that must enrich us and not divide us.
So much so that the mayor De Magistris, during the inauguration of the structure, wished that the Europe in which we live can increasingly be a Europe of rights and peace and that there will no longer be laws that consider it a crime to be clandestine.
