Naples' new waterfront: Via Partenope closed until September

The construction site is progressing new Naples seafront and the second stage of the works is being prepared on via Partenope. Starting from the beginning of July 2026, the stretch between Ugo Foscolo Street and steps of Via D'Aquino It will be closed to traffic for approximately two months, until the beginning of September. The construction site is part of the large-scale pedestrian and cycle redevelopment project of the seafront, financed by 13,5 million euro of European and national funds, which is redeveloping the entire coastline between Piazza Vittoria and Molosiglio.

Work progress: what's changing on Via Partenope

The first stretch of Via Partenope, the one between Piazza Vittoria and Via Ugo Foscolo, has been completed and reopened to traffic after sidewalk widening and roadway resurfacing. The construction site is now moving further forward, to the area between the "I Re di Napoli" restaurant and "Mammina," passing in front of Errico Porzio's pizzeria. The work will last until early September and will cover the entire roadway, resulting in ban for all unauthorized vehicles. The road is expected to be completely reopened by autumn, while the final delivery of the entire seafront It is scheduled for November 30, 2026, despite the delays accumulated compared to the initial schedule which envisaged the deadline as early as March 2025.

The project, worth over 13 million euros, is financed with European and national funds managed by the City of Naples. The goal is to transform the entire waterfront into a modern and accessible cycle and pedestrian path, with wider sidewalks, new paving, street furniture, and improved connectivity between the various coastal areas. The section of Via Nazario Sauro, already completed, was the first step in the project. Now, with the progress of work on Via Partenope, we're nearing completion of a project long-awaited by residents and tourists who frequent one of the city's iconic landmarks.

The new traffic plan for the summer

To ensure the continuation of the works and to minimize traffic disruption, the Municipality has prepared a traffic device temporary. On the reopened section of Via Partenope, from Piazza Vittoria to Via Foscolo, the one-way traffic From Piazza Vittoria towards Via Foscolo. Authorized vehicles coming from Via Caracciolo may enter the urban pedestrian area of ​​Via Partenope from the Piazza Vittoria gate, with the obligation to turn left onto Via Ugo Foscolo and then continue onto Via Chiatamone.

Via Foscolo will also be one-way towards Via Chiatamone, with a no-parking zone and removal ban on the right side. On the left side, the blue lines will be changed from a herringbone pattern to a parallel line to the sidewalk, to optimize remaining parking space. For those coming from Lungomare Caracciolo and needing to reach the city center, the recommended alternative route is Via Chiatamone and Via Santa Lucia, which remain passable. The construction site on Via Partenope, despite the inevitable inconvenience to those who live and work in the area, represents the final step before the conclusion of one of the most significant urban redevelopment projects in recent years for the city of Naples. Once completed, the new promenade will provide residents and tourists with a continuous, high-quality pedestrian path overlooking the Gulf, allowing them to fully enjoy the panorama that has always made this stretch of coast famous.
