Oki withdrawn from the market? No, it's just lacking

OKI pain and fever

In recent days, a hoax has been circulating regarding OKI, the famous anti-inflammatory drug. There are many videos on TikTok that talk about AIFA withdrawing this drug from the market, but the truth, obviously, is very different.

What is OKI?

Oki is a drug non-steroidal anti-inflammatory (NSAID), commonly used to treat mild or moderate pain, fever, and inflammation. The active substance of Oki is ketoprofen, which works by inhibiting the action of chemicals in the body that cause inflammation and pain.

At the moment only OKI pain and fever is missing

No withdrawal from the market, a mere production problem led to the shortage of the “OKI pain and fever” version, while what is no longer marketed, and never withdrawn, these days is a suppository oil.

How does OKI work?

THEOki, containing the active ingredient ketoprofen, works in the body in a very specific way to reduce the pain andinflammation. To better understand, it is useful to delve deeper into what happens in our body when inflammation occurs or pain is felt.

When a part of the body ignites, for example due to an injury or illness, the immune system releases chemicals That causes redness, heat, swelling e pain in the affected area. These chemicals include prostaglandins, which are fundamental in the inflammation process and in signaling the sensation of pain to our brain.

Il ketoprofen, the active ingredient of Oki, intervenes by inhibiting the activity of an enzyme called cyclooxygenase (COX). COX is essential for the production of prostaglandins. Therefore, by reducing the activity of COX, ketoprofen lowers the production of prostaglandins, which in turn reduce theinflammation, swelling and pain in the affected area.

This action makes Oki effective in treating various painful conditions, such as headache, muscle pain, menstrual cramps and other types of mild or moderate pain. However, it is important to remember that while Oki relieves the symptoms of pain and inflammation, it does not treat the underlying cause of the condition. For this reason, it is always advisable to consult a doctor for proper diagnosis and treatment of the cause of the pain or inflammation.
