Tactile Paths at the Capodimonte Museum in December 2024 and January 2025
Il Museum and Real Bosco di Capodimonte presents a new edition of the tactile path “Capodimonte in your hands”, an inclusive project designed to allow visitors to discover art through touch. The initiative will be held from 2 December 2024 al 28 January 2025 and will be open to both visitors blind and visually impaired both to all those who wish to live a different sensory experience. The event coincides with the International Disability Day (December 3) and the National Blind Day (December 13), enhancing inclusion and accessibility in artistic enjoyment.
Which works can be explored with the tactile path of Capodimonte?
The “Capodimonte in your hands” itinerary offers the possibility of exploring some of the museum's most iconic works through touch. Among these, theHercules as a child of Farnese collection and the busts sculpted by Vincenzo Gemito, whose surfaces almost seem to come to life at the touch of the hands, as well as a series of elegant furnishings and marble sculptures belonging to the royal collections.
Visitors will be guided along the main floor of the museum, which represents the heart of the Royal Palace of Capodimonte, built in the 700th century as a hunting lodge for the King Charles of Bourbon and destined to become a place of artistic exhibition. The tour also includes a stop in the suggestive Party Hall, a space that combines visual and acoustic elements for a complete immersion in the historical atmosphere of the museum. The tour ends on the second floor with the tactile description of the Flagellation of Caravaggio, to offer a unique perspective on one of the masterpieces on display.
How can you participate and book the Capodimonte tactile tour?
Access to the tactile path is Loano train station, but a early booking to ensure availability. Admission to the museum is free for people with disabilities and their companions. During the experience, you will be provided disposable gloves to explore the works in complete safety.

Organizations working together to make Capodimonte accessible to all
The “Capodimonte in your hands” initiative is part of a larger project, supported by the network Campania in your hands and from University Service for Activities of Students with Disabilities and DSA of the Suor Orsola Benincasa University. The aim is to make the culture accessible to all, overcoming all physical and sensorial barriers. The project involves numerous art places of Campania, including the Catacombs of San Gennaro, Museum of the Treasure of San Gennaro, Palace of Caserta, and the National Archaeological Museum of Naples.
The participation of important associations, such as theItalian Union of the Blind and Visually Impaired (UICI) Onlus,Italian National Union of Volunteers for the Blind (UNIVo.C.), and the Italian Federation for the Overcoming of Handicap (FISH Campania Onlus), demonstrates the value and commitment to promoting art without barriers.
