The Real Albergo dei Poveri between the Reclusorio and the Training School

This Palace was thought by Carlo and Maria Amalia of Bourbon during the mid-700s to ensure a shelter for vagabonds, derelicts, poor people, in short, to those who were considered the last of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies.

The Real Albergo dei Poveri was built byTuscan architect Ferdinando Fuga, which is why it is also called Palazzo Fuga, with the collaboration of some Neapolitan architects, Tagliacozzi Canale and Pollio, and for centuries it has been the refuge of the last who have been given a second chance, but also a sort of place of confinement.

Besides having been Albergo dei Poveri, Reclusorio or Serraglio, it has also become a place for Vocational Training Schools and craft workshops to start work. There they taught embroidery with gold thread, the art of metal casting, iron and woodworking, engraving, coral, music and singing.
