Piazza del Plebiscito will no longer be shrouded in darkness. After years of reports from citizens and visitors, a concrete intervention has finally arrived that will transform the night face of the square. On the occasion of 2500 years since the foundation of Neapolis, a was presented new lighting system created as part of a large-scale enhancement project.

To celebrate the event, Tuesday 10 June there will be a special ceremony with institutions and live music.

A new face for Piazza del Plebiscito

Piazza del Plebiscito is one of the symbolic places of Naples, the heart of civil events, celebrations and a point of reference for residents and tourists. Despite its historical and cultural value, the square has long suffered a poor evening lighting, which has penalised its use and safety.

What does the redevelopment project include?

The intervention is part of a agreement for the enhancement, redevelopment and unitary management of Piazza del Plebiscito and its underground spaces. A plan that aims to restore full functionality and centrality to the square, inserting it into a broader path of relaunching the Neapolitan urban heritage. The initiative is directly linked to the celebrations for the 2500 years since the foundation of Neapolis, thus offering a concrete opportunity to unite historical memory and urban innovation.

What will the new lighting consist of?

The main intervention concerns thelighting installation of the Hemicycle of Piazza del Plebiscito. The project includes a modern and functional system, designed to enhance monumental architecture of the square, while at the same time improving its evening lighting.
With this new configuration, the space can be fully experienced even after sunset, becoming more welcoming and usable for both citizens and tourists.

The inauguration of the new lighting system will take place Tuesday 10 June at 20.45pm, during a public ceremony designed to celebrate the new face of the square. The event will be a symbolic moment that will unite institutions and citizens, underlining the value of the intervention as part of a broader process of urban regeneration.
It will be an opportunity to show the result of the project to the city, with a program rich in institutional presences and artistic performances.

Who will be present at the inauguration

The ceremony will be presided over by leading institutional figures, starting with Prefect of Naples Michele di Bari and from mayor Gaetano Manfredi.
The evening will also be attended by Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of the Interior Wanda Ferro, representing the national government. Their presence underlines the strategic importance of the intervention for the image and functionality of the city.

During the ceremony we will witness a double musical performance which will symbolically accompany the new light of the square. The protagonists will be theWind Orchestra of the Margherita di Savoia High School andSymphony Orchestra of the Caselli-Palizzi Arts Center, both selected to represent youth talent and the educational value of music.

The artistic direction of the event will be curated by Teatro di San Carlo.
