Pompeii Theatrum Mundi 2025, the program at the Theater of Pompeii

From 20 June at 20 July, Great Theater of the Archaeological Park of Pompeii hosts the eighth edition of Pompeii Theatrum Mundi, the review signed by Theater of Naples – National Theater in collaboration with the Pompeii Archaeological Park. Four high-profile shows, directed by Amos Gitaï, Marcos Morau, Roberto Andò e Serena Sinigaglia, will bring to life a new season of summer evenings in one of the most evocative places in the world.

The shows scheduled in Pompeii in 2025

The review opens with “Golem”, created and directed by Amos Gitaï, on stage the 20 and 21 June at 21.00 pm. A multilingual work that reflects on the relationship between creation and destruction, inspired by stories and texts from Jewish and Central European tradition. On stage, an international cast that blends acting, music and narration to build a parable on the condition of minorities and collective memory.

Il 4 and 5 July it's the turn of “Morricone Night”, show directed and choreographed by Marcos Morau on music by Ennio Morricone, with dancers from all over Europe. Morau reinterprets the repertoire of the famous composer with a dreamlike, abstract and powerful style, transforming the soundtracks into scenic movement and physical memory.

The classics of ancient tragedy and comedy that will be reinterpreted

From the 11 at the 13 July, at 20.00 pm, will be staged “Electra” by Sophocles, Directed by Roberto Andò. After the success of his “Clytemnestra”, Andò returns to confront himself with Greek tragedy, deepening the themes of revenge and family ties. On stage, names like Sonia Bergamasco e Anna Bonhelp, for an intense, sober, profoundly contemporary staging.

The review closes with 18 at the 20 July, “Lysistrata” by Aristophanes, with Lella Costa in the role of the protagonist and the direction of Serena Sinigaglia. A comedy that starts from a dramatic assumption — the perennial war between Athens and Sparta — to tell the irony and strength of female disobedience. The show alternates comedy and reflection, mixing theatrical languages, music and movement.

Why Pompeii has become an international stage

In the last few years, Pompeii Theatrum Mundi has consolidated its role as summer festival of reference for classical and contemporary theatre, combining the majesty of the archaeological site with the artistic research of the major directors of the Italian and international scene. As the director underlines Roberto Andò, the festival creates a dialogue ancient tradition with modern imagination, offering the public an immersive cultural experience.

Even the director of the park Gabriel Zuchtriegel reaffirms the importance of theatre as a cultural and social engine. The entire festival, created with the support of Ministry of Culture, City of Naples, Campania region e Campania Theater Festival, represents an opportunity for territorial valorization and an example of virtuous collaboration between institutions.
