Five famous Greek classics on stage in the impressive scenery of the Teatro Grande di Pompei for the review Pompeii Theatrum Mundi!

Il Great Theater of Pompeii it will be the evocative stage of five theatrical performances taken from the most famous classic dramas for the first edition of the review Pompeii Theatrum Mundi scheduled from the 22 June to the 23 July 2017.

This is a four-year project curated by the Teatro Stabile di Napoli / Teatro Nazionale and the Soprintendenza di Pompei to make the most impressive archaeological site in the world "theater" of five important works: The Oresteia of Aeschylus, the Prometheus of Sofocle, theAntigone by Jean Anouilh, The Bacchantes of Euripides e Fedra by Seneca, with the directors of Luca De Fusco, Massimo Luconi, Andrea De Rosa and Carlo Cerciello.

The review Pompeii Theatrum Mundi is part of the wider project of the reopening to the public of the Teatro Grande of Pompeii, built in the II century BC, and will be an opportunity for many spectators to witness live a drama cycle that includes five major classical works of antiquity, in the most impressive theater scenario in the world.

Orestea (Agammenone and Coefore / Eumenidi)

It will be the trilogy of Aeschylus to open the festival Pompeii Theatrum Mundi. The opera, directed by Luca De Fusco, four evenings on the Teatro Grande of Pompeii, will be staged for four nights alternating with Agamemnon and Coefore / Eumenidi. Production of the Teatro Stabile di Napoli.

Prometheus of Sophocles 

Massimo Luconi brings on stage his Prometeo interpreted by the actor Luca Lazzareschi and inspired by the Senegal. On stage there will be African musicians and the set design includes an installation curated by the Senegalese artist Moussa Traore.
This show is also in the program of the Naples Theater Festival 2017.

Antigone. An African story by Jean Anouilh 

Here too it will be the Senegal the fil rouge of the work staged by Luconi who created this show after three years of laboratory conducted in Senegal with six young Senegalese actors. The show is performed in French and wolof with Italian surtitles. The choir, on the other hand, will be interpreted by Senegalese living in Naples.
Third floor theater production with the collaboration of the French Cultural Institute of Saint Louis and the Metastasio Theater of Prato.

The Bacchae of Euripides

Andrea De Rosa debuts in national premiere at the Teatro Grande in Pompeii with his "The Bacchantes" by Euripides, to demonstrate, as he himself declared that “The theater is still the place where a god can come to life, where we can still hear his voice and, above all, still question him”. The production is by the Teatro Stabile of Naples and the Teatro Stabile of Turin. This show is also on the program of the Naples Theater Festival 2017.

Fedra of Seneca

Carlo Cerciello closes the review with his "Fedra" produced by the INDA / National Institute of Ancient Drama - Onlus Foundation, after having made its debut at the Greek Theater of Syracuse and be represented at the Ancient Theater of Segesta, in Taormina and at the Roman Theater of Ostia Antica.
