The Precious Ridiculous at the Ogre's Garden: Molière performs in Pozzuoli on July 12th.

Domenica 12 July 2026, At 19:00, Garden of the Ogre of Pozzuoli hosts the second event of the review Theater (adrift) in the Garden, now in its 15th edition. On stage “The Ridiculous Precious Ones” by Molière, adapted and directed by Giovanni Meola.

The show is produced by Madrearte Theater e Theatrical Viruses, with a cast including Daniela Brosio, Antonella Ciccarelli, Rita Iodice, Cosimo Mino Seguino, Daniela Totano, and Mimì Vasto. Six actors will bring to life a whirlwind of characters, including gags, caricatures, and off-stage arguments, in a breathtakingly fast-paced metatheatrical game.

The plot

What happens when a young company wants to stage a show but lacks the funds? They make do. Between union demands and characters with animal-like characteristics and sounds, Molière's one-act play comes to life, ridiculing the affectations of false nobles and snobs. A fun and alienating metatheatrical short circuit, showcasing the actors' transformative abilities.

The direction by Giovanni Meola, who also signs the adaptation, is in line with the Commedia dell'Arte, with a work that combines the animal characterization of the characters with a contemporary look at the staging.

The Ogre's Garden: A Theater in Nature

The location is one of the most evocative elements of the event. The Giardino dell'Ogre, at Via Lago Averno 6 in Pozzuoli, directly overlooks the Lake of Averno, offering a natural backdrop of rare beauty. The performances are held without artificial lighting, immersed in greenery, accompanied by the sunset setting over the lake. A theatrical experience that inextricably unites art and nature.

The review, conceived by Ernesto Colutta e Giovanni Meola, includes four shows: 5, 12, 19 and 26 July 2026. After “Le Preziose Ridicole”, on 19 July it will be the turn of Flo's, an internationally renowned singer, with a work on EA Mario; on July 26th the series closes with an adaptation of Hamlet in Neapolitan by Mario Autore.
