Cicatiello Festival 2024 in San Martino Valle Caudina. Traditions and flavors of Irpinia

From 9 to 11 November 2024, the village of San Martino Valle Caudina, in the province of Avellino, celebrates the traditional Cicatiello festival, one of the most anticipated food and wine events in the area. Set in the context of the patronal festivities dedicated to Saint Martin Bishop, this festival represents a unique opportunity to discover local cuisine and immerse yourself in Irpinia traditions.

What is cicatiello? A typical Irpinia dish

At the heart of the event we find the cicatielli, a fresh artisanal pasta typical of Campania and in particular of Irpinia. Cicatielli, similar to cavatelli but slightly larger, are often enriched by the unique flavour of I'm cleaning, a local aromatic plant similar to mint. This ingredient, widely used in Irpinia recipes, gives the dish a characteristic aroma that makes it unmistakable.

During the festival, visitors will be able to taste cicatielli prepared by the expert hands of local chefs, accompanied by other typical dishes and local products.
