Why did the unions call for strike action?
The protest of May 6th arises from the failure to renew the National Collective Labour Agreement (CCNL) for mobility and railway activities, together with the Company contract of the Ferrovie dello Stato Group (FS). Both contracts expired on 31 December 2023, and the unions have denounced the lack of a satisfactory agreement on crucial issues such as salary, regulations and corporate welfare.
Despite some progress in negotiations, the trade unions have declared that no agreement has been reached that is capable of adequately responding to the demands put forward. The mobilization is therefore considered a need to defend workers' rights, ensure safety and protect the future of the railway sector.
