Earthquake in the Campi Flegrei area, a magnitude 4.7 shock felt in Naples: roar and fear.

Earthquake at Campi Flegrei: a 4.7 magnitude earthquake was recorded by the INGV at 7.46 pm today, 31 July 2026, and was distinctly felt throughout the Phlegraean Fields area and in several neighbourhoods of NaplesThe shaking, accompanied by a loud bang, prompted many people to rush out into the streets as a precaution.

The INGV had initially released a provisional estimate of magnitude between 3.7 and 4.2, later confirmed with the definitive value of 4.7. According to the data from theVesuvius Observatory the epicenter was located in the area of Campi Flegrei, at a depth of about 2 kilometers.

The shock was felt clearly especially in the areas of Pozzuoli, Bagnoli e FuorigrottaAt the moment, no damage to people or property has been reported, but numerous accounts on social media have already emerged of those who heard a loud bang followed by a sharp movement of the ground.

The event is part of the bradyseism which has affected the Phlegraean caldera for years, constantly monitored by the Vesuvius Observatory of the INGV.

In the event of an earthquake, experts recommend staying calm: do not use the elevator, take shelter under a table or in lintels, and stay away from windows and objects that could fall.
