Sebastião Salgado on show at the Naples PAN with Genesis: 245 black and white photo to tell the Planet

A shot from the Sebastiao Salgado exhibition

The "Genesis" exhibition at the Naples PAN is a declaration of love towards Planet Earth through 245 photographs by Sebastião Salgado.

Until 28 January 2018 you can visit, at the Palace of the Arts of Naples, the extraordinary photographic exhibition of Sebastião Salgado by Title "Genesis", with well- 245 black and white images that tell visitors the beauty of a unique and precious place, to understand and safeguard: our planet.

Sebastião Salgado, born in Brazil and lived between London and Paris, is the most famous documentary photographer of our time, who has chosen to dedicate his life to travel and to discover the most remote places of our world. The photographic project "Genesis" born, in fact, from a trip lasted 8 years It has become a very successful international tour.

The messages transmitted by this intense exhibition, composed of 245 shots in black and white, they are the purest and most universal: love towards the Earth; the need to protect our environment and our future by knowing the different aspects; the importance of assuming, therefore, behaviors that respect nature, establishing a harmonious relationship with it.

"Genesis" it is Salgado's artistic attempt to realize an anthropological atlas of the planet, but it is also an alarm signal that warns us, photo after photo, that the place in which we live is sacred and should not be destroyed.

Sections of Sebastião Salgado's “Genesis” exhibition

Thanks to the exhibition "Genesis" we can immerse ourselves in a suggestive photographic itinerary divided into five sections that retrace the lands where Salgado took his photographs: The Southern Planet, the Sanctuaries of Nature, Africa, the Great North, the Amazon and the Pantanàl.

Most images represent the way human beings relate to natural landscapes and uncontaminated that surround them, in distant worlds where you still live in close contact with the environment. Salgado has in fact lived in close contact with some indigenous peoples, to study and observe the ways in which they live in relation with their environment. Among those immortalized by his passionate gaze: the Pygmies of the equatorial forests in the northern Congo, the Yanomami and the Cayapós of the Brazilian Amazon, the Himba tribes of the Namibian desert, the Bushmen of the Kalahari desert in South Africa.

But the shots of Salgado also leave room for animals, to capture the relationship they have lived with their habitats, such as the giant Galapagos tortoises, the iguanas and sea lions, the zebras and tani other wild animals that cross Kenya and Tanzania during their migrations.

The exhibition "Genesis" is curated by Lélia Wanick Salgado, the artist's wife, on a project by Contrasto and Amazonas Images and is the result of the collaboration of Civita Exhibitions with the Department of Culture and Tourism of the Municipality of Naples.
