An evening of stargazing, conferences and exhibitions at the Capodimonte Observatory!
The Capodimonte Observatory organize one free evening of star observation, preceded by an interesting visit at instrumentation and a conference.
Il February 19, 2016, remembering the day when Niccolò Copernico was born well 543 years ago, the Observatory also wants to remember the arrival, in the structure, of an important tool: the repeating circle which was donated 200 years ago. It was built by the Munich mechanic, Georg von Reichenbach, and was the first instrument to make the first observation at the Observatory.
The instrument has long been considered lost, but fortunately it has been found and will be exhibited in the spaces of MuSA-Museum of Astronomical Instruments after careful restoration.
to celebrate the event, they will be exhibited 12 tables made by the Neapolitan artist Christian Leperino which represented episodes and characters who made history. The tables will be flanked by ancient works such as paintings, prints and books of the museum, including a important painting by Giuseppe Piazzi. The astronomer was the one who discovered the first asteroid, Cecere.
Everything will be told in a conference, "Piazzi and the discovery of the eighth planet". by Ileana Chinnici.
The evening will end with a astronomical observations in collaboration with the members of UAN-Unione Astrofili Napoletani (weather permitting).
