The history of the Certosa

The history of chartreuse begins in the distant 1085, initially a desertum, surrounded by nature and solitude, it was then transformed by the will of 7 pilgrims, among these were San Bruno of Cologne, Landuino of Lucca, Stefano of Die', Stefano of Bourges and Bresse, Ugo, Andrea and Guarino. The pilgrims thus founded their home on a massif located at 1200 meters above sea level.

By following the paintings and sculptures inside the Certosa di San Martino as a timeline, it will be possible to reconstruct the history and ancient function of the spaces that are today occupied by the sections of the National Museum.
