Silent Sound at Feltrinelli in Naples: Headphone-Powered Books, a Journey Between Voice and Theater
In the heart of piazza dei Martiri, the historic bookshop Feltrinelli of Naples celebrates his 70 anniversary with an initiative that transforms reading into an immersive experience: Silent Sound – Books in Headphones. The event, scheduled Saturday 18 October at 18:00 e Sunday 19 October at 17pm, born from the collaboration with the New Health Theater and the artistic direction of Mario GelardiTwo days dedicated to listening, to the voice, and to the written word, in an ongoing dialogue between literature and theater.
A reading experience on the go
Inspired by “silent” clubs, Silent Sound transforms the library into a widespread theatrical space, where the public, equipped with wireless headphones, will be able to move freely among the shelves and immerse themselves in the stories read by the actors. Every ten minutes, the voice, author, and atmosphere change, creating an ever-evolving literary journey. six interpreters - Valeria Cozzolino, Macky Montella, Marco Rinaldi, Vito Amato, Bruno Cassandra, and Alice Maggioletti – give substance to the texts in a performance that makes listening both a collective and intimate act.
The readings are taken from three novels that are symbols of Feltrinelli's publishing history: The Leopard di Giuseppe Tomasi di Lampedusa, School diary di Daniel Pennac e A woman di Sibilla AleramoEach passage represents a change of pace, tone, and emotion, with the voice becoming a narrative instrument capable of merging literature and stage presence.

Silent Sound – Books in Headphones invites us to rediscover reading as a physical and poetic experience, a gesture that combines listening and participation. In a familiar setting like a bookstore, words take on new life through sound and movement, while the audience becomes an integral part of the scene.
