From 24 March to 30 April 2023, the Monumental Complex of San Domenico Maggiore in Naples will host the exhibition "Space Art: From self-portrait to Selfie", conceived and curated by "Mediterranea Europa" in collaboration with "Exhibition Media" as well as sponsored by the Municipality of Naples.
The evolution of photography
Photography has had a significant influence in human culture, documenting important moments in history and society.
The exhibition presents a comprehensive overview of the history of photography, which starts from the first camera up to the color films of the Lumière brothers, passing through the most iconic cameras, such as the Lubitel, the Polaroid and the Diana Flash.
What is the "Space Art Selfie Museum" and how is it structured
The exhibition “Space Art Selfie Museum” offers visitors an interactive and engaging experience, with numerous scenic sets where you can express your art and creativity through the use of smartphones as cameras.
Each room is a work of art, ready for taking fun and shareable photos on social media. The corners and interactive art installations are inspired by the works of famous artists, fun and captivating.
The whole area hosts projections and light and sound effects high definition, for a unique immersive experience.
Workshops and weekly meetings
The show also offers an educational laboratory which tells the journey from self-portrait to selfie. Visitors have the opportunity to participate in weekly meetings with artists and industry experts, where the topics of digital culture, cyberbullying and the correct use of social media will be dealt with.
Other experts will be present, such as psychologists, non-profit organizations that take care of the most fragile and renowned artists who will tell where their passion for art comes from.
There will also be Digital Art experts who will explain how videomapping is born.
Timetable and ticket prices
The exhibition is open from Monday to Friday from 9.30 am to 19.30 pm, and on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays from 9.30 am to 21.30 pm.
The ticket entitles you to a visit of about two hours. Visitors can purchase tickets directly at the museum ticket office or on the Boxol website.
The cost of the ticket for adults is 13 euros (15€ with presale), while for students and children there are reduced rates and special prices for groups and schools.
