Tourist tax in Naples, increase of 2 euros per night in 2025?

From the 2025, the tourist tax in Naples could experience an increase in 2 euro per night, in conjunction with the Jubilee. The increase being studied by the Municipality represents a measure aimed at supporting essential public services, such as waste collection and public transport. The planned adjustments will affect all accommodation facilities, from non-hotels to luxury hotels, with the aim of improving the quality of hospitality and reducing the economic burden on citizens.

Mayor Manfredi's statements

The mayor of Naples, Gaetano Manfredi, confirmed its intention to increase the tax during the celebrations for the Feast of the Immaculate in Piazza del Gesù. Manfredi explained:

“Compared to other tourist cities like Milan, Rome, Florence, Venice, we have a lower tourist tax. Now we increase it, but without reaching the level of other cities. With these extra resources we can pay for additional services: cleaning, transportation, security, essential for a city that welcomes so many tourists. I think it is a fair choice.”

Resource utilization

The funds resulting from the increase in the tourist tax will be allocated to:

• Improve waste collection: The increased production of waste linked to tourism has generated high costs for the Municipality, currently borne by the citizens.
• Strengthen public transport: Increased demand requires investment in resources and infrastructure.
• Security and cleaning services: To ensure a standard adequate for a major tourist city.

Revenue forecasts

According to the Single Programming Document 2025-27, approved by the Manfredi council, the increase in the tax could increase the revenues from 21 million euro expected for 2024 at 32 million euro in 2025. These additional resources represent a key element to address the city's needs and offer better services to citizens and tourists.

Current rates

The current tourist tax rates, introduced in 2023, are:

• Hotel:
• 1 star: 2 euros
• 2 stars: 2,5 euros
• 3 stars: 3,5 euros
• 4 stars: 4,5 euros
• 5 stars and luxury: 5 euros
• Extra-hotel facilities: 3 €

With the expected increase, Naples will approach the rates applied in the main Italian tourist cities, while remaining at competitive levels.
