Yes, there is another novel connected to the Sinclair universe: it is called Born liars (Family of Liars in the original). Published by E. Lockhart in 2022, it tells the events that occurred decades before of Cadence's story. The protagonist is Carrie Sinclair, older sister and future mother of Johnny.
Through her voice we discover what happened the summer the family lost their little girl Rosemary, in dramatic circumstances. A pain never openly faced, which left invisible scars and pushed Carrie towards a spiral of dependence, isolation and rebellion.
What is the prequel novel “Born Liars” about?
Set in the 80s in Beechwood Island, the novel tells the story of a seemingly normal vacation for the Sinclairs. Carrie, along with her sisters Penny, Bess, and Rosemary, prepares for another summer of cocktails, swimming, and superficial conversations. But this time, nothing is destined to be the same.
The sudden death of Rosemary, her younger sister, shatters every balance. Carrie finds herself alone with her grief, ignored by a family that prefers act as if nothing has happened. In the grip of a drug addiction, he seeks refuge in the arrival of three mysterious boys on the island: George, Major and Pfeff. With them he will live a season made of first times, secrets and lies. But it will be Carrie, in the end, who will reveal a truth that everyone has kept silent about.
