The Spaniards in Naples, the exhibition at the Capodimonte Museum

Napoli prepares to welcome an unprecedented art exhibition. It's about “The Spaniards in Naples. The Southern Renaissance", a review of works of art created by some of the main Spanish artists active in Naples between 1503 and 1532.

The exhibition will be held at the Museum and Real Bosco di Capodimonte twigs March 13 to June 25, 2023 and represents an important exhibition project realized in collaboration with the Prado National Museum.

Raphael's Madonna of the Fish

Among the works on display, one of the most awaited is the Madonna of the Fish by Raphael, which returns to Napoli after 400 years thanks to the collaboration between the two museums. The work is intended for the chapel of the family of Teacher in San Domenico Maggiore in Naples, a fundamental point of reference for the artists active in Naples during the sixteenth century, but was taken by the Spanish rulers and moved to Madrid around the middle of the seventeenth century.

The exhibition aims to celebrate one of the most fruitful and least known moments of the Neapolitan artistic civilization, which takes place in the thirty years between 1503 and 1532 about. During this period, the city of Naples experienced a moment of great cultural effervescence, supported by the patronage of religious orders and the aristocracy.

La show, created in collaboration with the Museo Nacional del Prado, presents a wide selection of works performed by some of the main Spanish artists active in Naples in the period 1503-1532 approximately.

The exhibition offers a review of works performed by the following artists:

  • Pedro Fernandez
  • Bartholomew Ordonez
  • Diego of Siloam
  • Pedro hurt
  • Alonso beruguete

The exhibition offers a selection of the major protagonists of the local school of Naples, by the painters Andrea Sabatini from Salerno e Marco Cardisco to the sculptors John of Nola e Girolamo Santacroce.
