The story of Antigone is staged at the Piccolo Bellini, again a metaphor for rebellion and women's emancipation millennia after the tragedy of Sophocles

La Story of Antigone, Fable in music for crows, wild dogs, curses, tyrants, sepulchers & flowering maidens, is a re-reading of the tragedy of Sophocles Antigone signed by the Scottish writer Ali Smith and interpreted by Anita Caprioli. The show will be on stage at the theater Little Bellini of Naples from the 6 9 March 2014, directed by Roberto Tarasco.

One of the protagonists of the story is crow that, perched on one of the seven gates of Thebes, witnesses the attempt to Antigone to give burial to his brother Polynicesagainst the will of the king Creon. And to everything that follows from this gesture: the condemnation of Antigone for her illegal act of being buried in a cave. The king will decide to free her only after the pleas of fifteen elders of the polis and the prophecy of the soothsayer Tiresias. But it's too late Antigone she is dead, and Emone, son of Creon and promised spouse of Antigone, he commits suicide, and his mother dies too.

It remains only the crow, and its cornacchiotti, to tell us the story from the beginning, until "And they all died happily ever after". A story that makes us reflect, today as millennia ago, on the importance of the laws of God and those of men, and that make us ask questions such as: "Can a woman stand up to the power of a man? What if he is a king? ”,“ What is fairer? Defend the rights of the brother or enforce the law, even if it affects family members? ".

Antigone is still the story of an emancipation, and the courage of a woman who rebels against a male decision and conception, making her voice heard, without fear of sacrificing her life to oppose an unjust law.

The story of Antigone of Ali Smith was awarded by Alessandro Baricco as one of the stories “to be saved” on the Save the Story series, an editorial idea of the Holden School published by Gruppo Repubblica L'Espresso).
