The Church of San Giovanni a Carbonara in Naples

Church of San Giovanni a Carbonara in Naples

The church

The fourteenth-century church of San Giovanni a Carbonara located in the historic center of Naples, in the street of the same name, stands on a pre-existing convent of Augustinians. Today it is characterized by a purely Renaissance taste, the result of changes made over the centuries by the will of the king Ladislaus and his sister Giovanna. A new cloister was built and, later, the funeral monument dedicated to the king.

There are the Caracciolo di Vico Chapel, the funeral chapel of the family, and the Caracciolo del Sole Chapel with the sepulcher of Sergianni Caracciolo. The Sanfelice ordered the execution of a monumental staircase to access the church.

The works

Inside the church houses, among the multiple works, a statue of the Madonna delle Grazie and a Madonna with Child by Naccherino, a Crucifixion by Vasari and a high relief of the eternal Father of the Malvito.
