Porta Nolana in Naples

The door

The fifteenth century Porta Nolana, located in piazza Nolana near Piazza Garibaldi, it is recognizable one round arch marble set between two imposing towers in piperno, called Tower of Faith (or Cara Fè) e Tower of Hope.

So called as directed towards the ancient village of Nola, it was built to replace the Forcella gate, called the Cannavaro. The marble bas-relief present on the portal depicts the Aragonese king Ferrante I on horseback to which are added the gift badges Aragonese and Angevins, the representation of the city of Jerusalem, the lilies and the Samnite shields.

The façade overlooking Via Nolana presents a seventeenth-century bust of San Gaetano.
