The door

Port'Alba is one of the ancient doors of the city of Naples and is located in a corner of Piazza Dante.

It is so defined for Don Antonio Álvarez de Toledo, duke of Alba and descendant of the celebrated viceroy Don Pedro de Toledo who ordered his erection in 1625 in place of a false opening and in order to facilitate the passage from one side to the other of the ancient Angevin walls.

The door has the coat of arms of Philip III, that of the city of Naples and one of the viceroy. They were added to them frescoes representing the Virgin with San Gennaro and San Gaetano and a statue of San Gaetano.

The current aspect is due to the renovation work carried out at the end of the 1700 at the behest of Ferdinand IV of Bourbon.

The way that crosses it is very known for the book market that characterizes it.
