San Lorenzello (hence the term Borgo to indicate the area) is an Italian municipality made up of 2.243 inhabitants, and is located in the province of Benevento in Campania. For years the municipality has been famous for the production of a material of which it shares a high level of art with the nearby Cerreto Sannita: let's talk about the ceramic artistry.

History of San Lorenzello

Legend says that San Lorenzello was founded by Filippo Lavorgna, precisely in the 864th century. According to this legend, in the year XNUMX AD this Lavorgna took refuge on Mount Erbano (inside a cave with his family) following the destruction of Telesia. According to this story, going out in search of food, Filippo Lavorgna met a group of gypsies and one of them read the future to him.

She predicted the following:

Nobles are your births, your features beautiful, your arm strong and your heart generous; you have fled your country and your soul bleeds; your pains are not over ... but the star will shine on you, two stars, two eyes of refugee unhappy like you, but sweet as honey and beautiful as the sun. You will be the founder of a city with her and your name will remain immortal.

Philip returned to the cave to his family. Some time later, a crying young woman, Rosita, arrived seeking help for her father who was not well. Filippo followed Rosita, but when they arrived in front of their father he was already lifeless. The young man returned to the cave to his family, but saw a horrible scene: his family had been exterminated.

At this point, according to legend, Filippo and Rosina on the night of August 10th they founded a village which they named after San Lorenzo. Today it is known as San Lorenzello or Borgo Lorenzello.

The first datum in which a quote from this country is found is dated 1151, and is identified when William I Sanframondo (son of the Norman Raone), declared to have several fiefdoms in his possession. These include San Lorenzello and Civitella Licinio. The country has suffered several situations that have put a strain on the growth in the number of inhabitants, the 5 earthquake in June 1688 (there were 600 dead on 1.000 inhabitants), the famine of 1764, a new earthquake that hit the country in 1805 and finally cholera in the year 1837.
