Naples subways, information, timetables and stops
The subways of Naples include various lines, some managed by ANM such as Line 1 and Line 6, one managed by Ferrovie dello Stato, Line 2, others managed by EAV, such as the MetroCampania Nord/Est and the Circumvesuviane lines which we will not discuss in this post.
The things you need to know
- Metro timetables are not always the same. In summer, summer time applies, while in winter, winter time applies
- Unfortunately, the trains are not always on time.
- The ticket must be purchased before entering the station at the turnstiles (or at the office with TAPin and TAPout)
- The ticket must be stamped or activated at the turnstiles
- Tickets cannot be purchased on board
- The waiting times are sometimes long
- You can enter with the contactless ticket via TapIn and TapOut (Bancomat, Mastercard, Visa)
- You can buy a digital ticket through the Unico App
- Sometimes closures are brought forward for maintenance
What are the Naples Metro lines?
Subway 1 Line
La metro 1 line of Naples it is one of the main transport lines of the city, inaugurated in 1993. It connects the historic center with the north-western suburbs, from Garibaldi a Piscinola/Scampia.
Main features
path: The line passes through key points of the city, including interchange stations and areas of cultural and commercial interest.
Stations: The line counts 20 stations. Some of the main ones are:
- Garibaldi: Interchange hub with the railway station.
- University: Close to the university area.
- Toledo: Noted for its artistic design.
- Giving: In the historic center.
- Museum: Connect with line 2.

Subway 2 Line
La metro 2 line of Naples it is one of the main lines of the city. Inaugurated in 1925 as an urban railway, it was later integrated into the metropolitan system.
Main features
path: Line 2 connects the eastern and western areas of the city, from Gianturco a Pozzuoli Solfatara. This line runs through the center of Naples, serving important railway stations and interchange nodes.
Metro Line 2 stations
Line 2 counts 12 stations, including:
- Gianturco: Eastern terminus, located in an industrial area and well connected to regional railway lines.
- Central Naples/Garibaldi: Main interchange hub with line 1 and Napoli Centrale railway station, the city's main railway station.
- Piazza Cavour: Connection with line 1 through the Museo station, located near the National Archaeological Museum of Naples.
- Montesanto: Important interchange station with the Cumana and the Circumflegrea, located in a central and commercial area.
- Amedeo Square: Located in an elegant residential area, near Villa Comunale and the Naples seafront.
- Mergellina: Close to the coast, with access to the tourist port and ferry connections to the islands of the Gulf of Naples.
- Phlegraean Fields: Located near the Diego Armando Maradona stadium, important for sporting events and concerts.
- Aosta Cavalrymen: Situated in a residential and commercial area, with links to various local amenities.
- Bagnoli-Agnano Terme: Close to the Bagnoli district and the spa area of Agnano, important for spa tourism.
- Pozzuoli: Station located in the municipality of Pozzuoli, near the port and archaeological sites such as the Flavian Amphitheatre.
- Pozzuoli Solfatara: Western terminus, located near the Solfatara volcano and other natural and tourist attractions.
The line counts 12 stations, 45 the minutes needed to travel the entire route San Giovanni/Barra – Pozzuoli.
Subway 6 Line
La Line 6 of the Naples metro it is a line partly active and partly under construction, intended to connect the Fuorigrotta district with the historic center of the city.
Active route
The active section, inaugurated in 2007, extends for 2,3 km and includes 4 stations:
- Show (terminus)
- Augusto
- Lala
- Mergellina (interchange with Line 2)
Deal opening soon
The works for the completion of the line, which includes the construction of 3 new stations, are underway. The opening of this route is scheduled for end of July 2024. The new stations will be:
- Arco Morelli-Repubblica
- San Pasquale (interchange with Line 2 and Chiaia Funicular)
- Chiaia (terminus)
