From Tuesday 7 January 2026 and up to July 31, 2026, one of the most central and symbolic streets of Naples will undergo a major redevelopment project. The Municipality of Naples has in fact ordered the Vehicle traffic prohibited on Via Toledo, in the stretch between Via Nardones and Vico D'Afflitto, to allow for extraordinary maintenance work on the road surface.

The project is part of a broader program to improve urban infrastructure and will affect a strategic portion of the axis connecting Piazza Carità to Piazza Trieste e Trento, in an area with high pedestrian and tourist traffic.

The section affected by the works

The provision concerns exclusively the stretch of Via Toledo between Via Nardones and Vico D'Afflitto, where traffic will be closed for the duration of the construction work. The closure is necessary to allow for complex operations on the roadway and sidewalks, which would otherwise be incompatible with normal traffic.

The measure will come into force at the same time as the installation of temporary construction site signs.

What the interventions involve

The works will concern the extraordinary maintenance of the pavement, with targeted interventions on both the roadway and pedestrian areas. Specifically, the project includes removing and replacing the porphyry blocks and lava stone slabs, consolidating the subgrades, repairing the kerbs, and realigning the manhole covers and drains.

The project was divided into operational phases to reduce the impact on the urban context, although it required the complete closure of the affected section for safety and technical reasons.

Roads and traffic regulation

During the period of validity of the ordinance, all traffic devices that conflict with the new system will be temporarily suspendedLocal police and law enforcement agencies will monitor compliance with the order and may adopt additional contingent measures to ensure the safety of vehicular and pedestrian traffic.

Any changes to the start or end dates of the works will be communicated by the relevant offices.

A long-term intervention on a symbolic road

Via Toledo represents one of the city's main commercial and tourist axes. The project, although impactful in the short term, is aimed at restoring a safer, more functional and long-lasting flooring, improving the quality of urban space in one of the most lived-in areas of Naples.

Citizens and visitors are advised to pay attention to signs and plan alternative routes for the duration of the works.
