Ischian Gypsy at Liberi 2026, September 5th and 6th at the Festival

The final event of the season for the Liberi Food Festival : on September 5 and 6, 2026 , in Liberi , in the province of Caserta, we will celebrate with the zingara Ischitana , the queen of Campanian sandwiches served on toasted peasant bread with stringy caciocavallo impiccato . This is the thirtieth edition of the event, which has been running since 1996.

The event takes place on Via Vittorio Emanuele in Liberi (CE) starting at 19:30 PM . Visitors will find over a thousand seats , live music, group dancing, a large parking lot, and an amusement park for children.

It's the last weekend of the Sagra di Liberi season, which is celebrating its thirtieth edition: the event's official badge reads 1996-2026.

The Ischian gypsy, happiness on two slices of bread

The star of the show is the Ischian zingara, a sandwich created by Sagra di Liberi and described by the organizers as "happiness on two slices of bread." It's a sandwich made with toasted pane cafone (a peasant bread) and stringy caciocavallo impiccato (hanging cheese ), with the ingredients that complete the recipe available for discovery at the stand.

Zingara is one of the most beloved sandwiches in the Campania tradition, and in the festival version it becomes the symbolic dish of the last weekend of summer.
