The 1 May is celebrated on Labor Day with the intention of remembering all the progress achieved by workers over the years, thanks to the hard work and battles fought to obtain the recognition of the fundamental rights that we are trying to protect today.
The anniversary, celebrated not only in Italy, between origins of one a manifestation has been conducted held in the USA in 1882 by the Knights of Labor, which was repeated two years later. From that moment on, the Knights, along with many trade union organizations, proposed to honor the event once a year.
The day chosen was 1 May also following the tragic consequences of a strike held in Chicago in front of an agricultural machinery factory in 1886. On that occasion, the police killed some demonstrators causing the reaction of many workers who, later , they gathered in the square to ask for justice. Shortly thereafter, they were hanged on charges of organizing, the 1st May, the strike that started the events.

City of Science - Concert May 1st
Following theincendio doloso which destroyed most of the pavilions, the City of Science has repeatedly shown that it has not given up and has faced the dramatic event with dignity and courage. On the occasion of the Labor Day, CGIL, CISL and UIL Campania for Città della Scienza will present the special concert of the 1 May which will be held right inside the structure.
The secretaries of CGIL, CISL and UIL reiterated the importance of the event not only for Naples, but for the whole country, declaring that a call to legality is necessary.
