Public transport tickets in Naples
What you need to know
In Naples public transport is managed by 3 distinct companies:
- ANM, the municipal public transport company
- EAV, a Campania company that covers internal and, above all, external transport to the municipality of Naples
- Trenitalia, a national company that covers internal and external transport to the Municipality of Naples on the railway line
There are two types of tickets:
- Those and institutional, or valid for only one of the 3 companies mentioned above
- Those ICT, i.e. integrated tickets valid on all and 3 companies
Where can I buy physical tickets
- In the many tobacconists and affiliated newsstands, most of those in the area are
- In the Single Points distributed throughout the territory (map of the points of sale)
- Through distributors present in most stations
Tickets can also be purchased digitally via Unique Campania app or by SMS to the number 4868680.
How Contactless tickets work and why you need to pay attention to TapIn and TapOut
Unlike many other European metropolises, in Naples the differentiation of routes and companies has complicated the creation of contactless payment via credit and debit cards, as the cost of the trip varies according to the distance traveled (divided into bands).
To overcome this problem TAPin and TAPout were introduced, that is, the payment card must be swiped at the reader both at the entrance both at the exit, often the exit one is usually present near the turnstiles before leaving.
