Two tigers will arrive at the Naples Zoo and one will be a rare example of a white tiger!

A big news awaits us at Naples Zoo for the weekend of 8 and 9 April 2017, an event that will amaze young and old. In fact, veterinarians and staff of experts of the structure will present to the public two specimens of tigers calls Annibal and Arcana, who will remain at the zoo in the future.

But what is the truly amazing event? Arcana is a specimen of a white tiger, a very rare animal in nature that can be admired from now on in the city Zoo. The two tigers were donated by Gianni Mattiolo and Giacomo Ferrari and it will certainly be an excellent opportunity to take the children to see something almost unique. Arcana and Annibal, of course, will be hosted, treated and looked after in the best possible conditions, thanks to the deep commitment of the technical and medical staff.

The weekend will also be presented during the weekend program of events for Easter.

The White Tiger

The white tiger is a rare animal in nature that is the fruit of nowadays crossings between multiple subspecies (but does not belong to a separate subspecies), even if initially it originated as a result of the variation in the color of the Bengal tiger's coat. This one has an orange fur, but a spontaneous genetic mutation has led to the birth of white-furred tigers with black or brown stripes. The specimens of this type are called leucistics, in fact leucism is a form of incomplete albinism caused by a recessive gene that blocks the pigmentation of the coat.

Furthermore, they are not included in conservation programs because, although they are very rare, they are not a separate subspecies. The sector organizations do not commit themselves in this sense because their survival and diffusion depends only on the action of man who, only for aesthetic reasons, has today selected the characteristics of this mutation, breeding white tigers.
