The history of the Catacombs of San Gennaro
The Catacombs of San Gennaro represent the most important monument of Christianity in Naples, arise on two levels, not overlapping with very large spaces. Their origin dates back to the second century AD and it seems that it is the tomb of a noble family, which then decided to give the area to the Christian community.
In the XNUMXth century AD, the remains of Sant'Agrippino, or the first patron saint of Naples, were placed in this place, and the area was also enlarged.
