Marco Mazzoli won the Isola dei Famosi 2023. The radio host, during his victory, wanted to remember his friend Chico Forti which is in prison for 24 years. But who is this man?

Who is Chico Forti?

Born in Trento on 8 February 1959, Enrico “Chico” Forti he lived a life full of adventures before becoming the subject of judicial news. Initially famous as a surfer, he has participated in several competitions, including the 1985 Windsurfing World Cup, distinguishing himself as the first Italian to compete in this prestigious event. After a car accident in 1987, Forti began to devote himself to documentary production focus on extreme sports. In 1990, thanks to a cash prize he won by participating in the Telemike television program, he moved to the United States.

Because Chico Forti is in prison

Forti's life took a tragic turn in 1998 when he was accused of killing the Australian entrepreneur Dale Pike, found dead on a Florida beach. sentenced tolife sentence in 2000, Forti served his sentence in the Dade Correctional Institution, near Miami. Forti has always declared himself innocent, claiming to be the victim of a judicial error. Thus began a long battle, on various fronts - legal, diplomatic and political - to return to Italy and serve his sentence in his native country, by virtue of the Strasbourg European Convention on Human Rights.

The numerous appeals for Forti's return to Italy

There were numerous calls for Forti's return to Italy, coming both from the political and entertainment worlds. In December 2020, the Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio announced the acceptance of the request for the transfer of Forti to Italy by the governor of Florida, Ron De Santis. In October 2021, the television personality Jo Squillo, a friend of Forti's, drew further attention to the case by going on a hunger strike.
