The Neapolitans in Paris in the years of Impressionism, which offers an interesting focus on the artistic production of Neapolitan painters and sculptors who worked in Paris in the second half of the nineteenth century.

In this period, in fact, when the artistic current of theImpressionism, there were many artists who came from Naples to the French capital, more numerous than those coming from other Italian cities. Giuseppe de Nittis, Vincenzo Gemito and the "Neapolitan Impressionists"

The exhibition From De Nittis to Gemito. The Neapolitans in Paris in the years of Impressionism traces the development of Neapolitan painting in the light of the changes and influences of French Impressionism.

The main exponent of this phenomenon was Giuseppe De Nittis, of which there are about thirty exhibited works, a Pugliese but Neapolitan painter by vocation and culture, who in Paris founded a real artistic living room frequented by Neapolitan painters arrived in the city but also by the famous Edgar Degas, Edmond de Goncourt, Charles François Daubigny. It was here that the "painting of modern life" was born, a contamination between the banks of the Seine and the slopes of Vesuvius.

But in the rooms of Palazzo Zevallos you can also admire works by Vincenzo Gemito, including his many portraits and the great "Fisherman", presented at the 1878 Universal Exhibition and on loan from the Bargello National Museum, and Antonio Mancini that from the attendance of the living room of De Nittis developed a very original pictorial style.

Among the other artists involved in the exhibition also Giuseppe Palizzi, Domenico Morelli, Gioacchino Toma, Francesco Netti, Francesco Paolo Michetti, Federico Rossano, Edoardo Tofano, Giacomo Di Chirico, Alceste Campriani.
