Pork Saute Challenge in Taurasi, a mouth-watering program

Il 10 March 2024, Fried Pork Challenge Will be held at Taurasi, promoted by Slow Food Irpinia Conduct Ufita Hills and Taurasi. An event that celebrates the rich agricultural tradition of Irpinia, highlighting the culture and philosophy of food through the centuries-old practice of pork processing.

Housed in the evocative setting of Marchionale Castle of Taurasi, the event is proposed as a celebration of local cultural heritage, offering participants a unique experience of gastronomy, environmental sustainability and community traditions.

What do you eat at the festival

During the Fried Pork Challenge, participants will be able to taste an assortment of typical products derived from pork processing, such as hams, salamis, coppa, capicolli, sausages, in addition to the protagonist of the event, fried pork.

The event will also be an opportunity to appreciate the peasant breakfasts, who will put on the table products and vegetables grown following the principles of Slow Food to guarantee good, clean and fair food.

The complete program

The Challenge is enriched with a full program of activities ranging from culture to gastronomy:

  • 08 hours: 30 - To the Marchionale Castle in the historic center of Taurasi, I start with the registration of the participants and the setting up of the stations for the Challenge.
  • 10 hours: 00 – The day continues with the first eaten: a peasant breakfast offered by the participating communities, accompanied by the opening of theIrpinia wine shop.
  • 11:00 am and 16:00 pm - Are provided guided tours of the Marchionale Castle, the Museum and the historical center of the Municipality of Taurasi, to immerse yourself in local history and art.
  • 11 hours: 30 – Presentation of the communities participating in the Challenge near “lu callar”, a moment of meeting and sharing.
  • 13 hours: 00 – The highlight of the day: the XIV Fried Pork Challenge, with the installation of the Technical Jury and the opening of the popular Jury vote.
  • 17 hours: 30 – In the courtyard ofRegional Enoteca at the Marchionale Castle, the prizegiving of the best Pork Sauté 2024 and the first edition of the award Oto Tortorella for the best Aglianico paired with sautéed pork.

Throughout the day, the Bucolic Market and food stands of the participating communities will brighten the historic center of Taurasi, offering visitors the opportunity to purchase local products and savor the excellence of peasant cuisine.

The Challenge is proposed not only as a culinary competition, but as a real cultural, tourist and gastronomic event, full of activities ranging from the tasting of typical products to the discovery of the territory, from entertainment to training, in a perfect balance between tradition and innovation.
