Eurovision 2023: the participants, the songs and the piece by Mengoni

Eurovision Song Contest 2023 England

THEEuro Vision Song Contest 2023 is almost upon us and the anticipation for the most important European musical event of the year is getting bigger and bigger.
The competition will see 23 solo singers, 4 duets and 10 groups from all over Europe, who will compete for the title of "best European song".

Marco Mengoni, winner of Sanremo, has decided to bring Two Lives to Eurovision

Marco Mengoni prepares for his second participation in the Eurovision Song Contest with the song "Two Lives", which saw him triumph at the 2023 Sanremo Festival.
The Italian singer-songwriter's decision to bring a song into Italian, despite the temptation to present a new single in English, demonstrates the importance he gives to the valorisation of language and Italian music within the international context.

To this we can also add that, historically, Italy has always achieved absolutely respectable results, including the 2021 Maneskin victory, with the Italian songs.

The song will undergo changes compared to the Sanremo version

The piece by Mengoni, to adapt to the style of Eurovision, will have to be slightly modified to comply with the duration limits imposed by the rules of the competition.
However, this it shouldn't affect the beauty and magic of the song, which has already conquered the Italian public.

How Eurovision 2023 will work

Mengoni will have the difficult challenge of compete with 23 solo singers, 4 duets and 10 groups from all over Europe (and beyond), who will compete for the title of "best European song". Among the participants are artists of all ages, from the Greek Victor Vernicos only 16 years old to the leader of Croatian band Let 3, Damir “Mrle” Martinović, who is 61 years old.

To win the race, participants will have to comply to precise rules of duration, form and content of the songs, but also to the method of voting. Each participating country has indeed the right to cast a vote for the favorite song, thus determining the final ranking.

Mengoni's participation in the European music competition represents a great opportunity for the singer-songwriter to be known outside the Italian borders and to win over an international audience. Furthermore, it could be a stepping stone to his international career.
