THEformer station of the Posillipo cable car, now abandoned for many years, will have a new function: it will become a large luxury restaurant with a panoramic terrace which will give a truly wonderful view directly on the Gulf of Pozzuoli.

The new view of the station will be made possible by the person who saw the tender of the Mostra d'Oltremare, which owns the site. The gang was selling the former cable car in via Manzoni 310, which for too many years had only been in abandonment and decay.

Competing for the tender were several entrepreneurs e Neapolitan restaurateurs and one of these won with his project for a luxury restaurant.

The cable car that connected Fuorigrotta and Posillipo

La Posillipo Alto-Mostra d'Oltremare cable car, this is its full name, was built in 1940, the same year in which the Mostra d'Oltremare was inaugurated, to connect the promontory of Posillipo to Fuorigrotta and remained in operation until 1961. It should be noted, however, that in the years of the Second World War there were several closures mainly due to the bombings.

Since, the upper part became a restaurant, the Gulliver, but for a few decades why closed in the 90s. That's why for about 30 she has been left to herself, unfortunately.

What will the new restaurant look like

The project involves the construction of a fantastic luxurious restaurant. It will be composed as follows:

  • it will have 3 floors;
  • there will be terraces and gardens with a beautiful panoramic view,
  • around there will be a large green area of 1000 square meters;
  • a bar room that can also host receptions.

Because the station was put up for sale

Owned by the Mostra d'Oltremare which has the majority shareholder in the Municipality of Naples, the former cable car station will now be owned by a private individual. The choice was made by the Exhibition because the property "it is not considered strategic for its development program“, Therefore in 2014 it was decided to put it up for sale after the positive opinion of the Superintendency.

Of course the new owner will have to ensure its conservation and integrity, as well as ensuring the "restoration of the original architectural characteristics of the buildings". In addition, the exhibition will strive for break down building abuses which were made before the signing of the new sales contract.
