Learn English while having fun! This is the method of John Peter Sloan's comedy shows, such as "I am not a penguin" at the Bellini Theater in Naples
Exceptionally only for an evening, the comedian British actor John Peter Sloan will be on stage at Bellini Theater of Naples with his latest show I am not to Penguin, scheduled for Wednesday 16 April 2014.
Sloan has the merit of having invented a new method for teaching English in Italy, rejuvenating the boring and ineffective language courses in our country. His lessons are real mini-shows, which then become whole live shows, like "Culture Shock!", also arrived on the stage of ZELIG, the temple of comedy in Milan, "Full moon", "Caveman" e "Instant English (the show)". He has also published successful books and a multimedia course for Repubblica-l'Espresso, "Speak now", distributed in two million copies.
The characteristics of these educational shows is their being perfectly usable and fun even for those who do not have an advanced knowledge of English. For the first time he managed to approach anyone to English through funny sketches and comic monologues full of rhythm, energy, fun and involvement, overcoming the boredom of language learning.
In I am not a penguin Sloan reworks his old shows that targeted the cultural differences between England and Italy, drawing comic situations starting for example from the observation of clichés, developing a broader and more complex vision, in which the story of his biographical journey also finds space . We also laugh at a poor childhood, a halved family and the heavy crisis of the Tatcherian period. We then move on to the rediscovery of Italy and the revision, always in the name of irony, of all its conventions: women, language, prejudices and the energy of an adoptive people, highlighting the merits and defects that a sometimes they even escape those born there.
I am not a penguin it is a lifelong journey, scattered with reflections, jokes, anecdotes and questions, to discover the Birmingham that is within us and that piece of Italy that we had perhaps forgotten.
The show is largely in Italian and does not create any problems of understanding for those who do not know English well.
