La plot of the episode follows Commissioner Ricciardi in solving a case of murder of the cloth merchant, Constantine Irax. Everyone in town seems to already have the culprit in mind: Vincent Sannino, a boxer who emigrated to America and returned for the love of Irace's wife. But Commissioner Ricciardi doesn't trust the gossip of the people and wants to find out the truth in his way.
Meanwhile, the private life of the commissioner is no less than his investigations, divided as always between the interest of Livia and the Countess Bianca Borgati of Rockthorn. But the commissioner's thought is all for Enrica, which is taken from the German Major Manfred. When organizing the girl's birthday dinner at the Colombo house, the German officer plans to ask for Enrica's hand.
