Instagram, the popular social media platform, met operating problems not only in Italybut all over the world. The disturbance began in evening of May 21st, when a large number of users reported that they are unable to update their feed or access various content. Any attempt to view images, navigate posts, or play videos and reels resulted in a system crash, followed by a error message.

The amount of reports of malfunctions with Instagram has increased significantly on both Downdetector, a well-known site that monitors user problems with Internet services, both on other platforms such as Twitter.
As evidenced by the hashtag #InstagramDown, the service outage has not only affected Italy, but has impacted users around the world who have complained of similar problems with the platform belonging to the universe Meta (company that owns Facebook and Instagram).
