An altar for the Day of the Dead in Mexico at the Cervantes Institute in Naples
Until 11 November 2016 at the 'Instituto Cervantes of Naples the tenth edition of the "Day of the Dead in Mexico“, Organized by the Mexicans group in Campania. It is one of the most important recurrences of Mexican culture declared intangible cultural heritage of humanity by UNESCO.
This celebration is the result of the fusion of the Christian world with the pre-Columbian one which took place in the 16th century with the Spanish expansion in Mexico. For Christians, death is the end of a life while for the Mexicans death is only a corridor that allows the transition to a better life.
This fusion transformed this moment of Christian reflection into one happy and ironic party during which the world of the living and that of the dead share flavors and smells. According to Mexican tradition, the November 2 dead return to relatives' homes to console them for their loss
In the center will come set up an altar for offerings to the dead, decorated with candles, flowers, water and lots of Mexican food. It is organized by the Mexican Resident Association in Campania.
