The show The Taming of the Shrew at the Galleria Toledo theater in Naples

The famous Shakespearean comedy "The Taming of the Shrew" staged at the Galleria Toledo in Naples, directed by Laura Angiulli

Laura Angiulli, artistic director of the theater Toledo Gallery, he directs the famous play by Shakespeare The Taming of the Shrew, on stage 19 from November to December 1 2013.

The work deals with the theme oftaming of the woman during the marriage, of his condition of subordination with respect to man, in a full "misogynist" perspective that reflects the traditional sixteenth and seventeenth-century conception and that of William Shakespeare himself, author of the original text. Everything is rendered, on a dramaturgical level, through fun and brilliant farcical situations, grotesque and full of misunderstandings

The story revolves around the vicissitudes of Petruchio, a man who arrived from Verona to Padua to marry a rich and wealthy woman, and to his "love duel" with Caterina, a woman "Shrew" but only in appearance. In fact, unlike other women, she is endowed with a marked sensitivity and intelligence that allow her to accept the condition of "submission" only because it is suggested by conventions and the common concept of life as a couple, even though she is really in love and attracted from Petruccio, who will become at the end of the drama, from grumpy and brutal, to "curmudgeon" and joking.

The amorous skirmishes between Petronius and Catherine, characterized by a continuous exchange of brilliant and irreverent jokes, make their story one of the most pleasant representations of married life.

To frame the pièce, also in the staging of Laura Angiulli, the meteatrical context typical Shakespearian, which reveals the scenic fiction and dismantles the mechanisms, making the whole thing openly theatrical.

On the stage of the show set up at the Toledo Gallery seven actors for fourteen charactersthe pieces to be interpreted (two each) and the scenography by Rosario Squillace who will minimize the reproduction of reality to highlight the physical presence of the actors, in a more “conceptual” and allusive scenic background.
