The paintings of the painter Ribera and some of his students will be exhibited at the Palazzo Zevallos Stigliano in Naples.

Until 5 June 2016, il Palazzo Zevallos Stigliano of Naples will host the exhibition “Around Giovanni Ricca's“ Santa Caterina ”. Ribera and his circle in Naples ”.

The exhibition will expose the majors paintings of Neapolitan painting of the seventeenth century with particular attention to the artistic path of Jusepe de Ribera and the remarkable influence of the Spanish master on the whole figurative culture of his followers who, starting from Caravaggesque tendencies, achieved an elegant romanticism, characterized by a chromaticism accentuated in the chiaroscuro.

The central work of the exhibition is the Saint Catherine of Giovanni Ricca, masterpiece also painted by other artists but with different techniques. Also part of the exhibition are the paintings by Hendrick De Somer, the Master of Announcements to the Pastors and Francesco Guarino, whose styles allow visitors to analyze differences and similarities.

The event, wanted by Intesa Sanpaolo, owner of the art gallery, is curated by Giovanni Porzio and was organized in collaboration with the Torino Musei Foundation and the Department of Human and Social Sciences of the University, with the aim of cto safeguard and disseminate the city's artistic heritage.

There will also be some side activities, such as visits, special talks and initiatives for children. Among these, also an appointment at Comicon 2016 with four cartoonists who will reinterpret the paintings, exhibiting their works at the comic fair.
